BJP kept speaking against Revdi politics, now why did it promise loan waiver in Maharashtra?

New Delhi: BJP has promised in the Maharashtra Assembly elections that if it comes to power, it will waive off the loans of farmers. This has been included in the party’s manifesto. BJP has been continuously speaking against Revadi politics and has also been cornering other parties in its name. BJP has been saying that we are working to double the income of farmers so that there is no need for loan waiver for farmers.

What do political experts say

Sandeep Sonwalkar, a senior journalist of Maharashtra and who closely understands the politics there, says that in the Maharashtra elections, there is a competition going on between the two alliances as to who can announce how much freebie. he/she said that when Uddhav Thackeray’s government was formed, he/she had waived off loans of farmers up to Rs 2 lakh. Its effect was also visible on the ground. In this election, Uddhav Thackeray is mentioning in every speech that we have waived off loans of farmers up to Rs 2 lakh and will waive loans up to Rs 3 lakh if they come to power again. BJP has to counter this.

Why did BJP change its strategy?

Sandeep Sonwalkar says that BJP is referring to Laadli Behna Scheme. BJP said that they will increase the amount from Rs 1500 to Rs 2100 under the Ladli Behna Scheme, while Mahavikas Aghadi is saying that they will increase it to Rs 3000. When BJP talked about free education to girls, Mahavikas Aghadi said that we will give free education to boys also. Sonwalkar said that farmers are a big issue in Maharashtra and the problem of the farmers is that they do not get the right rate for their crops. Sugar farmer is also a big issue. he/she said that rural distress was visible during Diwali also, and inflation is also an issue.

‘The scheme of distributing ‘Rewadis’ is not right.

Economist and former professor of Nagpur University, Srinivas Khandewale says that free schemes are not good from economics point of view. Giving women Rs 1500-2000 instead of giving them good education, employment and higher wages is not the solution. This raises expectations that if you got so much free this time, you will get more free next time. Also, if one party gives this much, the other party will give more. he/she said that in the CAG report in Maharashtra, concern was also expressed that the scheme of distributing Revadis is not right. But because of politics all the alliances are doing the same.

Politics’ own sheep

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been speaking against Revadi culture. After 2017, BJP had never promised loan waiver of farmers in any election. This is the first time since 2017 that BJP has promised loan waiver. In the 2017 UP assembly elections, BJP had promised loan waiver of farmers. It was implemented again. However, after that, continuously in election after election, BJP kept saying that loan waiver of farmers is not the solution to the problem.

BJP leaders have been saying that the solution is to increase the income of farmers. Even during the Chhattisgarh Assembly elections, local BJP leaders wanted a promise of loan waiver for farmers, but instead of promising loan waiver, BJP promised that if their government is formed, 21 quintals of paddy per acre will be purchased at Rs 3100. . A lump sum payment will be made to the farmers.
