BJP does not want the displeasure of the middle class! Government will leave no stone unturned in the budget, understand the whole thing

New Delhi: Another general budget is about to be presented, which will be the first budget of the third term of the Narendra Modi-led NDA government. The budget is being presented at a time when the middle class is demanding relief from the central government. In the last few years, this section has had to face many challenges at the economic level. This section has also been a committed voter section of BJP for a long time and after a long time, their displeasure is visible from public platforms. In such a situation, it will not be easy for BJP to ignore their demands.

There is a lot of discussion about tax

In the last few months, the biggest discussion on social media was about tax. A perception was established among the middle class that the government was not serious about their interests. They allege that the government takes their support, but when it comes to giving something in return, they are completely ignored. During the Covid era, this section gave the opportunity to bring the situation back on track. Now that the situation has become normal, it has again started raising its voice regarding its demands.

Free raves raised concerns

As the trend of freebies increased in elections, this section has started feeling that it has been completely neglected politically and there is no one left to talk about its interests. The government is also aware of the resentment of this section. Recently, in an interesting move, the Central Government decided that monthly data of GST collection will not be released. It was also decided that the data related to the remaining tax collection will not be publicized on a large scale.

Government received feedback

The reason behind this step was the feedback received by the government. The government received information that the wrong message of increasing taxes every month was being sent and people were feeling that the government was just collecting taxes. For the last few years, whether it is a matter of GST tax collection or income tax collection, the government has presented its increase as a big success. But now he/she has decided to abstain from it. Especially among the middle class, there is resentment over the fact that the government focuses completely on tax collection, but they do not get any benefit from it.

Also, rising inflation has made the situation more difficult. Various reports in recent times have indicated that the spending power of the middle class has been severely affected and their earnings have not increased at all compared to inflation. People of this section have now started comparing the taxes of UPA time. This is the reason why this year’s budget is expected to provide major relief in income tax.

Government cannot ignore the middle class

It will not be easy to ignore the demands of the middle class and their resentment. The middle class may not be the largest population in the country in terms of numbers, but this section has the most power to shape the narrative. There are about 350 such Lok Sabha seats across the country, where the middle class population has the ability to influence the decisions. However, under the leadership of Narendra Modi, BJP has been successful in changing the myth that it is an urban party.

The party expanded rapidly in rural areas and in return the rural population also got benefits from the government. Kisan Samman Nidhi and free ration strengthened the credibility of the government and BJP among the poor. Besides, BJP also continued to get support from the middle class. In such a situation, the risk of ignoring its expectations may create problems for the government in the coming days.

The opposition is also making efforts

During UPA 2, Anna movement or Nirbhaya movement became a major reason for the fall of the government. Both movements were led by the middle class. But right now the government is facing a different kind of challenge. As the economic situation is, there doesn’t seem to be much scope for relief. The economy is suffering from a slowdown somewhere. The government has limited means of earning. All kinds of welfare schemes cannot be stopped. On top of that, freebies started in many states, which further limited the resource options available to the government.

However, BJP knows that the 2029 general elections are still far away and there will be many opportunities for course correction. Meanwhile, opposition parties have also realized that this is their opportunity to enter the middle class. This is the reason why for the last few days they have also started raising issues related to this class.
