Big victory in Maharashtra but why BJP could not break into Soren’s fort in Jharkhand

New Delhi: While BJP has registered a grand victory in Maharashtra, in Jharkhand BJP could not break into the fort of Hemant Soren. BJP started the narrative of ‘Ek hain toh safe hain’ from Jharkhand but this narrative did not work in Jharkhand. However, BJP got its benefit in Maharashtra. In Maharashtra, BJP got the benefit of Ladki Bahina Yojana, whereas in Jharkhand, Hemant Soren got this benefit from Maayanya Yojana.

Ahead in the battle of narrative and taking voters to the booth

In Maharashtra, BJP got a big benefit from the lessons learned from Haryana elections and its implementation. BJP started the narrative of ‘Bantenge to Katenge’ and softened it a bit and made it a slogan of ‘If there is one, it is safe’. BJP did not allow this narrative to weaken anywhere. Despite the objections of Mahayuti’s allies, BJP stood firm on this in an aggressive manner. Also, the lesson learned from Haryana was that we have to take our voters to the polling booth.

Did Uddhav lose to his/her father Balasaheb Thackeray, his/her closeness to Muslims became the major reason for the defeat?

From the very beginning, BJP ensured that the voters inclined towards them should not sit at home and should definitely go to vote. Women also liked the promise of increasing the amount given under Ladki Bahin Yojana from Rs 1500 to Rs 2100.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh also used its full strength and created the narrative that when BJP is not in power, attacks on Hindus increase. People from various organizations of the Sangh also worked to take this narrative to every home. The entire election management and booth management has been a positive aspect for BJP.

Overplaying the infiltrator issue leaves out other issues

In Jharkhand, BJP was not successful in breaking into the fort of Hemant Soren. Here also Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and its associated organizations had worked in favor of BJP but BJP was left far behind in the numbers game. BJP first made corruption an issue here and tried to corner Hemant Soren on the issue of corruption. But due to Kalpana Soren’s continuous campaigning and inclusion of defectors in BJP, BJP could not stand the narrative of corruption. On the contrary, sympathy worked in favor of Hemant Soren. BJP overplayed the issue of infiltrators here.

Forward-looking statements of BJP’s election co-in-charge and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma kept coming. Senior party leaders from Delhi also tried to corner Hemant Soren and Congress on the issue of infiltrators. But it did not work for BJP. Independents have always been winning in Jharkhand. Local issues dominate here.

In order to overplay the issue of infiltrators, BJP did not focus that much on local issues. Due to which BJP suffered loss. Also, BJP could not provide any face in front of Hemant Soren. Throughout the election, instead of any Jharkhand leader from BJP, the face and statements of Himanta Biswa Sharma remained dominant.

If Vaishnav-Yadav prevails, Himanta-Shivraj will get a shock.

The role of BJP’s election in-charge Bhupendra Yadav and co-in-charge Ashwini Vaishnav in Maharashtra’s victory is also discussed. Both of them were in-charge and co-in-charge in the 2023 Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections also. BJP had also registered a bumper victory in Madhya Pradesh. These two Union Ministers made the strategy and took charge of the management. The results showed that it was successful.

The stature of these two leaders is continuously increasing in the party and the results of Maharashtra can have a more positive impact on it. On the other hand, the setback faced by BJP in Jharkhand may affect its election in-charge Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. Both the leaders continued giving statements there. Himanta Biswa Sarma was very aggressive on the issue of infiltrators.
