Big setback for England, fast bowler injured, will not be able to play a single match in 2024


New Delhi. The Sri Lankan team is currently on a tour of England where they are playing a Test series. England suffered a major setback during the Test series. England’s fast bowler Mark Wood got injured. Wood has suffered an injury to his/her right elbow. This is a big setback for England as Wood will not be able to play in the remaining matches this year. In this way, he/she is out of the Test series against Pakistan in October and New Zealand in December.

England’s fastest bowler Wood felt pain in his/her elbow during the Test series against the West Indies in July, which caused him/her trouble in bowling. Despite this pain, he/she played in the first Test match against Sri Lanka in Manchester. he/she also suffered an injury to his/her right thigh in this match and due to this he/she could not play in the second and third Test matches against Sri Lanka.

The England and Wales Cricket Board said that Wood’s goal is to achieve full fitness by early next year. Then the England team has to tour India to play a limited overs series, while the Champions Trophy will be played in Pakistan in February. Meanwhile, he/she will continue to work closely with the ECB medical team. his/her goal is to be fully fit by early 2025.

In Wood’s absence, Ollie Stone was recalled for the Lord’s Test. This was his/her first Test match after back surgery three years ago. While 20-year-old left-arm fast bowler Josh Hull made his/her debut in the ongoing third Test at the Oval.
