Big news for Indians waiting for green card, US issued visa bulletin, know when will they get PR

US December Visa Bulletin: Indians have to wait a long time to get permanent residency i.e. green card in America. Every month the US government issues a visa bulletin, which tells by what date PR will be given to the people who apply. The US State Department has released the visa bulletin for December. It tells how many visas are available in which category. Some special things have been mentioned in it for Indians.
Visa Bulletin is a kind of calendar, in which people thinking of going to America are told when they can apply for their visa and how long they may have to wait. There are two main dates, the first being ‘filing date’ and the second being ‘final action date’. The ‘Filing Date’ is the date when you can submit your application, and the ‘Final Action Date’ is the date when a decision on your application is expected.

What is the status of employment-based green card?

The December Visa Bulletin sees minor changes to certain employment-based (EB) visa categories, especially for Indian citizens. For people considering obtaining a green card through the EB category, the dates below provide information about the earliest they can receive a visa or when their application status has been approved.

  • EB-1 (Priority Workers): Final action date for Indians is February 1, 2022. There has been no change in this compared to last month.
  • EB-2 (Professionals with Advanced Degree): There has been a slight change in the date for getting a green card for Indians in this category, which is now August 1, 2012.
  • EB-3 (Professionals and Skilled Workers): The cut-off date for India has been advanced by one week to November 8, 2012.
  • EB-3 (Other Workers): The date for India has been moved up by one week, now to November 8, 2012 for EB-3 professionals.
  • EB-5 (Immigrant Investors): There is no change in the cut-off date for the unreserved category of EB-5, which is January 1, 2022.

EB category visas are especially for those people who want to go to America for job or business. There are different categories in it, such as EB-1 is for very talented people, EB-2 is for professionals, EB-3 is for skilled workers. There are different rules for each category and each category has different quota for each country.

For countries like India, very many people apply in EB category, due to which very long queues are formed. This is called ‘backlog’. In this time’s bulletin, there has been some progress for India in the EB-2 and EB-3 categories, but it is very minor.
