The fourth quarter of the year, which is considered to be the most profitable, has not seen any success at the box office yet. Especially the films released on Diwali did not perform as expected. highlights

  • Big money expected from ‘Pushpa 2’, ‘Mufasa’ and ‘Baby John’, big bet on December release films
  • This is the reason why filmmakers are now expecting earnings from the last month of the quarter, December.
  • Let us tell you that the highest grossing film so far this year at the Indian box office is Prabhas’s Kalki 2898 AD.

The last quarter of the year is considered to be the strongest in terms of box office earnings. Actually, due to the festive release dates like Gandhi Jayanti, Dussehra, Diwali and Christmas falling during this period, many big films of big stars are released, due to which huge earnings are also made. Due to films like Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, Shahrukh Khan’s Danki, Prabhas’s Salaar and Salman Khan’s Tiger 3, which were released during this period last year, more than Rs 1500 crore were earned in the last quarter of the year. In such a situation, despite earning less than expected in the first three quarters of the current year, the film makers were hopeful that all the work would be completed in the last quarter of the year. But if the experts of the film world are to be believed, despite the passage of the first two months of the fourth quarter, October and November, the earnings have not been even half as compared to last year. Now only Rs 700 crores have been collected at the box office in October and November. Earnings have been made. In such a situation, to challenge last year, there is a need to earn more than Rs 800 crore at the box office in the remaining months. At present, everyone’s eyes are on the big films of Bollywood, South and Hollywood to be released in December. Next month, from Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 to Hollywood’s superhit franchise Lion King’s next film Mufasa Lion King, Gadar fame Anil Sharma’s Vanvas and Varun Dhawan’s South avatar, Baby John will be released.

less success than expected

The performance of films in the first two months of the last quarter of the year was below expectations. This is the reason why filmmakers are now expecting earnings from the last month of the quarter, December. Actually, Akshay Kumar’s film Skyforce was to be released on Gandhi Jayanti this year. But it got postponed due to the Hollywood release Joker 2. The limit was reached when Joker 2 proved to be a huge flop at the box office. Due to the announcement of release of Surya’s Kanguva on Dussehra, no big Bollywood producer released his/her film. Whereas Kanguva got postponed at the last moment due to Rajinikanth’s vetting. However, Kanguva, which was released in November, was also not successful at the box office. Apart from this, the video of both the films released on Dussehra, Alia Bhatt’s Jigra and Rajkumar Rao’s Trupti Dimri’s Vicky Vidya, was completely rejected by the audience. Due to this, the month of October lagged behind significantly in terms of earnings. Then the producers were also expected to earn Rs 500 crore from the two films released on Diwali, Ajay Devgan’s Singham Again and Kartik Aryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. But both the films together could earn only Rs 500 crore. At the same time, other films released in the month of November like I Want to Talk and The Sabarmati Report also did not do anything special.

Will the glow return in the last month?

At present, everyone’s hopes are pinned on Pushpa 2, which is considered to be the biggest film of the year. Everyone was surprised to see the presence of lakhs of fans in the trailer release event of the film held in Patna recently. Seeing the strong craze of Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna’s film among Hindi speaking fans, experts from the film world are expecting this film to become the highest grossing film of this year. Let us tell you that the highest grossing film so far this year at the Indian box office is Prabhas’s Kalki 2898 AD. This film had earned more than Rs 1000 crore worldwide including Rs 300 crore in Hindi. Mufasa The Lion King is also being released this month. Shahrukh Khan and his/her two sons have given voice in this film. Producer and film business analyst Girish Johar says that in the last month of the last quarter of the year, strong earnings are expected due to the release of two big franchise films like Pushpa 2 and Mufasa The Lion King.
