Big changes expected in IPL 2025, franchise owners to have meeting with BCCI

Mumbai Many big changes are expected before the new season of the Indian Premier League. Ahead of next year’s tournament, IPL team owners met BCCI officials on Wednesday. During this, opinions were divided on issues ranging from the mega auction to the impact player rule. With the mega auction to be held ahead of the 18th season of the T20 league next year, the BCCI had called a meeting at its headquarters to discuss all the issues.

After the meeting, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said, “The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Wednesday held a constructive dialogue with the owners of 10 franchises on various topics related to the next season of IPL. The franchise owners presented feedback on player rules and other business aspects including central merchandising, licensing and gaming. The BCCI will now place these recommendations before the IPL Governing Committee during further deliberations before formulating the IPL player rules.

Among the team owners or co-owners who attended the meeting were Shah Rukh Khan from Kolkata Knight Riders, Kavya Maran from Sunrisers Hyderabad, Ness Wadia from Punjab Kings, Sanjeev Goenka from Lucknow Super Giants along with his/her son Shashwat. Along with this, Parth Jindal of Delhi Capitals was also present. Manoj Badale and Ranjit Barthakur from Rajasthan Royals, Prathamesh Mishra from Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kashi Vishwanathan and Rupa Gurunath from Chennai Super Kings, Amit Soni from Gujarat Titans while the owner of Mumbai Indians joined it online.

Wadia and Shah Rukh had a heated exchange on whether there should be a mega auction or not. Parth Jindal, director of JSW Sports, which owns Delhi Capitals, said the meeting “did not yield any real outcome” as the teams stuck to their views on all matters discussed. “There was no real outcome. It was just to hear different viewpoints from all the owners and the BCCI has listened to us and now they will tell us all the rules. Hopefully by the end of August, we will know the rules for the next season,” Jindal said.
