Big blow to West Indies before T20 World Cup, all-rounder out


St. John. The West Indies cricket team, which is going to host the ICC T20 World Cup, has suffered a major setback before the start of the tournament. The experienced all-rounder of the two-time champion team is out due to injury. West Indies on Sunday included Obed McCoy in the team in place of Jason Holder for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Holder had to be dropped from the team due to an injury while playing the County Championship. Cricket West Indies (CWI) said without giving any information about Holder’s injuries that the player needs time to recover from the injury. The team’s medical staff will provide all assistance to ensure his/her speedy and complete recovery.

“Jason is an experienced player in our team. his/her absence will undoubtedly be felt both on and off the field. We hope that Jason will be fully fit soon,” chief selector and former player Desmond Haynes was quoted as saying in a CWI release.

he/she said, “It is unfortunate to lose a player of Jason’s caliber, but we have faith in Obed McCoy’s abilities. Obed has shown remarkable skill and stamina in his/her performance. This opportunity will give him/her a chance to showcase his/her talent on the international stage.” CWI has also named five reserve players – Kyle Mayers, Fabian Allen, Matthew Ford, Andre Fletcher and Hayden Walsh – for the tournament starting June 2.
