North Korea dealt a major blow to the US on Friday by firing two railway-borne missiles, flouting new sanctions. Local media gave this information on Saturday. South Korea’s military said two short-range ballistic missiles were launched by North Korea on Friday afternoon. Both the missiles were fired through the train. Hours later, North Korea accused the United States of provoking it to break new sanctions. At the same time, according to the news agency KCNA, North Korea tested missiles from a train for the first time in September 2021.

430 km range
Seoul’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said Friday’s launch covered a distance of 430 kilometers (270 miles) at an altitude of 36 kilometers. This was North Korea’s third weapons test this month after two successful tests of hypersonic missiles on January 5 and 11.

Japan’s Prime Minister’s Office and the Defense Ministry also said they found North Korea’s test to be a ballistic missile. Japan’s Coast Guard issued a safety advisory saying an object may have fallen. The Coast Guard has urged ships operating between the Korean Peninsula and Japan, as well as between the East China Sea and the North Pacific, to monitor further information.
