The decision to premiere ‘Munjya’ on television before releasing it on OTT is a strategic decision aimed at reaching as many viewers as possible. A spokesperson for Maddock Films said, ‘The premiere on TV allows us to reach out to viewers who missed watching it in the theater. They get a chance to enjoy the film at no additional cost.’

What is the story of ‘Munjya’?

This film is based on a folk tale, which has a connection with the Konkan district of Maharashtra. In the film, the lead character Abhay Verma encounters a ghost named Munjya. Munjya had died a painful death, and he/she wants to marry his/her girlfriend Bela (who is actually Abhay Verma’s girlfriend). Bela’s character in the film was played by Sharvari Wagh

Where did the idea for ‘Munjya’ come from?

Director Aditya Sarpotdar had told in an interview that he/she is from Konkan. Whenever he/she used to go to his/her village in his/her childhood, the people there used to tell him/her stories related to Munjya. People used to say that Munjya is a ghost who lives on a peepal tree. Munjya means the sacred thread ritual, in which the child’s head is shaved and the sacred thread is worn. It is said that if the child dies within 10 days after the sacred thread ritual, then he/she becomes a Brahma demon and keeps wandering on the earth. he/she is called Munja.
