Job Offer Letter: A job offer letter received from any company proves that you have been officially offered a job. It contains important information like your job details, your position, what work you will do and how many hours you will work. Form I-9: Form I-9 is one of the most important documents for foreign students working in the US. It is used to verify both your identity and your employment authorization. As an employee, you must complete Section 1 of the form and the company must complete Section 2. Form I-9 ensures that you are legally allowed to work in the US.

W-4 Form: The W-4 form is used to find out how much tax you have to pay. Like American citizens, foreign students also have to pay taxes. Completing the W-4 correctly ensures that the appropriate amount is deducted so you don’t run into overpayments when you file your taxes.

Employment Authorization Document (EAD): Students working off-campus under OPT or CPT are required to obtain EAD. This document is issued through USCIS, which proves that the foreign student is allowed to work in America. By working outside the campus without an EAD, students are violating visa rules, due to which their visa also gets canceled.

Social Security Number (SSN): If you do not have an SSN, you will have to apply for one through the Social Security Administration (SSA) as soon as you get a job. SSNs are required for payroll processing and tax reporting. Without SSN, your company cannot legally pay you salary. There is also difficulty in filing taxes.

Salary: Paychecks are also known as pay stubs in America. It contains information about salary and deductions made in it. It also shows how much money has been deducted as health insurance and tax. Keeping records of pay stubs is very helpful while filing taxes. Pay stubs also serve as proof of income, which may be necessary for visa extensions or other immigration processes.
