Batsmen who played innings of 80+ runs in ODI, neither 4 nor 6, two were MOM

New Delhi. The game of cricket has changed now. Today’s cricket has come a long way from the old cricket when barely 200 to 250 runs were scored in a day in Tests and 400 to 500 runs were scored in ODIs by combining the scores of both the teams. Shorter format cricket has made the game exciting. Batsmen have invented many innovative shots to hit fours and sixes and fans gather in the field to watch them. There was a time when scoring 300 runs in ODI cricket was considered very difficult, but now many teams have crossed the score of more than 400 many times. Looking at the way runs are being scored in almost every match today, it seems that soon some team will cross the ‘barrier’ of 500 runs in ODI.

The biggest score so far in One Day International is 498 runs in the name of the England team, which it made against Netherlands in 2022. England is the only team which has scored more than 450 twice in ODI. In today’s era of fast batting, it is difficult to imagine a batsman scoring 20-25 runs without hitting fours and sixes, but in the 80s-90s, there were some batsmen who could not score any boundary in ODI (neither a four nor a six). Sixes) and have scored 80 or more runs.

Sandpaper, dust, mint and ‘mouthwork’… strange methods of ball tempering, many veterans have got entangled.

Parore scored 96 runs on the batting wicket, in which there was no boundary.
The record of highest individual score without hitting fours and sixes in One Day International is in the name of New Zealand’s wicketkeeper batsman Adam Parore. Parore, who played for the Kiwi team from 1990 to 2002, scored 96 runs against India (India vs New Zealand) in the Wills World Series match on 28 October 1994, in this innings there was neither a six nor a four. All 96 runs were completed by the batsman by running. Vadodara’s wicket was ideal for batting but despite this, Parore, who came in at number one, could not hit any boundary. Facing 138 balls, he scored 96 runs (strike rate 69.56). Even before completing his century, he became the victim of fast bowler Manoj Prabhakar.

Batting first in this match, New Zealand scored 269 runs losing four wickets in 50 overs with the help of captain Ken Rutherford’s 108 runs and Parore’s 96 runs. In reply, the Indian team achieved the target by losing just three wickets with the help of Sachin Tendulkar’s 115 runs (9 fours and three sixes) and Manoj Prabhakar’s 74 runs (seven fours).

What did Sourav Ganguly say that Shoaib Akhtar started bowling at 11 pm?

Zaheer Abbas played an inning of 84 runs without any boundary in Melbourne.
Pakistan’s Zaheer Abbas was popular as ‘Asian Breadman’ and ‘Run Machine’. He was adept at batting on bouncy wickets and played shots like cut-pull very well, but in the Melbourne ODI against Australia (Australia vs Pakistan) in January 1982, he played such an inning of 84 runs on a wicket that was difficult for batting, in which no one batted. There was no four and no six. Zaheer had scored 84 runs on 113 balls on a wicket that was helpful for the bowlers. His score without a boundary played an important role in taking the Pakistan team to 218 runs for six wickets in 50 overs and then winning the match. This match was played under the Benson & Hedges World Series Cup.

In response to Pakistan’s score of 218 runs in the match, Australia team was all out for 193 runs. The Pakistani team, captained by Javed Miandad, won the match by 25 runs and Zaheer Abbas, who played an inning of 84 runs without any boundary, was the ‘Player of the Match’.

When 4 pairs of brothers played for the same team in ODI, history was made.

An England batsman has also scored 84 runs without hitting a boundary.
Like Pakistan’s Zaheer Abbas, England’s Kim Barnett has also scored 84 runs in ODIs without hitting a boundary. Both Zaheer and Burnett received the Player of the Match award for this ‘boundaryless’ innings but surprisingly this debut ODI proved to be the last for Burnett. After this innings, Burnett could never play ODI for England. England won this match against Sri Lanka (England vs Sri Lanka) at the Oval ground in September 1988 by 5 wickets.

Batting first, Sri Lanka scored 242 runs losing 7 wickets in 55 overs. Dilip Mendis had played the highest innings of 60 runs (six fours and one six). In reply, for England, Burnett scored 84 runs in 146 balls without any boundary, while Alan Lamb scored 66 runs in 70 balls with the help of three fours and one six. In the last overs, Rob Bailey scored unbeaten 43 runs with the help of three fours and one six in 34 balls and took the team to the target in 52.4 overs. England won the match by five wickets and Burnett was the player of the match. After this ODI, he played three tests for England but did not get a chance to play in any ODI. Burnett’s international career was limited to one ODI and four Tests.
