New Delhi: 15 thousand Indians present in Bangladesh are completely safe amidst the anti-reservation protests by students. These include 8500 Indian students studying there. In a regular press conference, spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that ‘Protests are going on in Bangladesh, we see it as an internal matter of Bangladesh. In this regard, we have issued an advisory for Indian citizens. This also includes those students who are living there. A helpline number has also been given for this.’ Along with this, Jaiswal said that Foreign Minister S Jaishankar is personally monitoring this matter. In response to a question about the disruption of internet service in Bangladesh, Jaiswal said that there is no problem in communication with the High Commission there and we are constantly getting information about the situation. Let us tell you that the protests of students are going on in Bangladesh since last Monday, which took a violent turn on Thursday. Meanwhile, in an advisory issued by the Indian High Commission in Dhaka yesterday, Indians living there were advised to limit their movement.

What did Jaiswal say on the statement of the US Ambassador?

The Ministry of External Affairs also reacted to the statement of US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti on strategic autonomy. Jaiswal said that our views are different in this matter and the ambassador is free to express his/her opinion. Jaiswal said that “Like many other countries, India also considers its strategic autonomy important. The ambassador can express his/her opinion, but India has its own different thinking.” he/she further said that the strategic partnership between the US and India gives both the countries the space to respect each other’s opinion and agree on disagreements on issues. In fact, while speaking on the relations between the two countries during a program in Kolkata recently, Garcetti had said that he/she respects the fact that India likes its strategic autonomy but strategic autonomy does not matter at the time of conflict.

When will the Indians stranded in Russia return home?

On the question of the return of Indians trapped on the war front in Russia, Jaiswal said that the ministry knows about 50 Indians associated with the Russian army. he/she said that this number is of those people who have expressed their desire to return to India either on their own or through their family. The spokesperson said that this issue has been raised with Russia at every level and Prime Minister Modi himself raised this issue in front of President Putin during the India-Russia annual summit. The Russian side has shown a positive attitude towards this. he/she said that 10 such Indians have returned and it is expected that the rest will also come back soon.

What did he/she say on India Israel Mobility Agreement?

Regarding the India Israel Mobility Agreement, Jaiswal said that many citizens of India are already working in Israel as caregivers. he/she said that many Indian workers have gone to Israel in the past, although he/she also clarified that he/she does not have any number regarding how many Indians have gone to Israel. Along with this, Jaiswal also informed that External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has talked to his/her Ukrainian counterpart and the scope of this conversation was bilateral issues. Jaiswal said that during his/her visit to Russia, the PM had made it clear that the conflict cannot be resolved on the war front.
