Bangladesh Minority Council condemns false case against lawyers, journalists; demanded immediate withdrawal




Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council has condemned the false and disturbing case against 70 minority lawyers and two journalists from Chittagong accusing them of fabricated charges including ‘crude bomb’ explosion and car vandalism.

In an official statement on Sunday, the council said the case was registered with the ulterior motive of obstructing the sedition case brought against Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari and forcibly preventing the publication and dissemination of related news, which is in violation of human rights and the rule of law. Violates the rule.

The council also demanded that the Bangladeshi government and law enforcement authorities immediately drop the false case and take immediate steps to release the lawyers and journalists.

This case was registered at Kotwali police station in Bangladesh on Saturday.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, ISKCON Kolkata alleged that Bangladeshi authorities had arrested two monks, Adipurush Shyam Das and Ranganath Das Brahmachari, as well as Chinmoy’s secretary Krishna Das.

ISKCON Kolkata vice-president Radha Raman said the monks were arrested by police on Friday when they were on their way home after meeting Chinmoy Krishna Das, who was arrested on treason charges on November 25.

“On November 29, when Adipurush Shyam Das and Ranganath Das were returning after meeting celibate Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu, they were arrested by the police. We are also getting information that Chinmoy Krishna Das’s secretary has also been arrested,” Radha Raman said in a self-made video.

The situation in Bangladesh is tense after spiritual preacher Chinmoy Krishna Das was charged with treason for hoisting the saffron flag over the Bangladesh national flag in Chittagong on October 25.

Following Das’s arrest, a lawyer was killed during a clash between police and alleged followers of the spiritual guru in the Chattogram Court Building area on 27 November.

India on Friday expressed concern over “increasing incidents of extremist rhetoric, violence and incitement” in Bangladesh.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said India has consistently and strongly raised the issue of targeted attacks on Hindus and other minorities with the Bangladeshi government.
