New Delhi: Islamists supporting the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus in Bangladesh have called for the adoption of a national security doctrine. What do the Islamists of Bangladesh want?

Islamists have demanded a military leadership that is independent and not controlled by India. Mahmudur Rahman, editor of Bangladesh’s daily newspaper ‘Amar Desh’, said this at a public forum recently. Sources say Rahman’s comments reflect the views of Islamists. Rehman accused the Awami League led by ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of weakening the army’s leadership. Rehman has been vocal against the Awami League since Hasina was ousted from power. They are also demanding a ban on the student wing of Awami League.

Demand to cancel Saima Wazed’s nomination

Saima Wajed, Sheikh Hasina’s daughter, has been nominated for a key WHO post. Rahman wants to cancel this nomination. Apart from this, steps like naming the Jamuna Bridge after Shaheed Abu Saeed, making public the agreements signed with India since 2009 and changing the name of Bangabandhu Avenue in Dhaka to Shaheed Abrar.
