Baloch activist urges people to join protest amid enforced disappearances


Prominent Baloch activist Mehrang Baloch on Tuesday urged the public to join the “Breaking the Silence: Standing Against Enforced Disappearances” campaign across Balochistan and Karachi against the hundreds of enforced disappearances over the past week.

In a post on X, activist Mehrang Baloch said, “Over the past week, hundreds of Baloch individuals have been forcibly disappeared by Pakistan’s LEA. The Baloch Yakzehti Committee is actively reporting these cases, but still, the exact number is unclear. We urge the Baloch people to join our campaign, “Breaking the Silence: Standing Against Enforced Disappearances” with demonstrations across Balochistan and Karachi.

Baloch Yakjehti Committee highlighted that incidents of enforced disappearances have devastated the entire society and urged the families of Nushki to participate in the protests as it is the most affected area of ​​Balochistan by disappearances.

In a post on Twitter, BYC said, “Like most parts of Balochistan, Nushki is one of the most affected areas, where a protest rally will be organised. BYC urges family members and residents of Nushki to join in and register their protest. Details of some of the forcibly disappeared Baloch youth are listed below; However, the actual numbers and full details are unknown.

BYC further said that some cases of disappearances still go unnoticed due to lack of awareness and fear.

Baloch Yakjehti Committee revealed the names of Nushki victims which include Mumtaz Baloch, Master Farid, Engineer Abdul Malik, Iqbal Baloch, Habib Baloch, Sharif Jan, Shah Salim, Asfand Baloch, Naseer Baloch, Zahoor Jan and Fida Baloch.

On October 18, three people were forcibly disappeared by Pakistani security forces from Panjgur and Khuzdar districts of Balochistan. Balochistan Post reported that Ali Haider, Siraj Rasheed and Shahab reportedly went missing at different times by the authorities.

In another incident, police arrested BYC central sub-organiser, Lala Wahab Baloch and four others amid peaceful protests in Karachi.
