‘Bad behavior’ of medical colleges! Using MBBS, BDS students for your benefit

Need money from government, stopped admission

Actually, private medical colleges of Maharashtra get funds from the state government. Money is given to these colleges under different schemes of Maharashtra Government. But these colleges say that they have outstanding dues of Rs 30 to 50 crore with the government.

To demand money from the government, these colleges stopped the ongoing MBBS and BDS admissions in the current session. Among these, the admission process for the second list was going on on the basis of NEET 2024 marks. Seats were also allotted to the students through NEET counselling. Then the Association of Managements of Unaided Private Medical and Dental Colleges (AMUPMDC) stopped the BDS and MBBS admission process.

Students stuck between government and union

The association says that many of these colleges depend on government funds under various schemes for 60 to 70 percent of their medical seats. In such a situation, it has become difficult for them to run the college without money. In this regard, he/she also sent a letter to Maharashtra Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif last week.

At the same time, Maharashtra Medical Education Department asked these colleges to resume the admission process citing the Supreme Court. The state CET cell warned these colleges that legal action would be taken against them if they did not start the admissions.

Despite the government’s warning, these colleges remained adamant on their demand. They said that they will continue their protest until the government gives them any assurance. According to TOI, a member of the Private Medical College Association said, ‘We are also concerned about the welfare of the students. We don’t want them to suffer. But we want the government to give a written assurance that it will make some rules to pay the money on time. Our biggest expense is teachers’ salaries which go every month. Many new medical colleges are buried under bank loans.

Now threat to NEET PG admission?

However, after this drama that lasted for about a week, when the government finally gave in writing that it would try to settle the matter soon, the colleges started the admissions. However, the Medical College Association has still said that the government is being given time till the start of PG medical admissions. That means, if funds are not received by then, NEET PG admission can also be stopped?
