Bad behavior again: Drunk man pees on co-passenger on American Airlines

New Delhi, March 5 (Language)

An inebriated passenger allegedly urinated on a male co-passenger on an American Airlines flight from New York to New Delhi. Sources gave this information on Sunday. The incident took place in flight number AA292 which took off from New York at 9.16 pm on Friday and landed at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport here at 10.12 am on Saturday. A senior Delhi Police officer said, “We have received a complaint against Arya Vohra, 20, a resident of Delhi’s Defense Colony, studying in the US, for urinating on a co-passenger on American Airlines.” We are taking necessary legal action.

A source at the airport said, “The accused is a student of an American university. he/she was in an inebriated state and urinated on his/her clothes in his/her sleep, which wet the passenger sitting next to him/her. After this the passenger complained to the crew. he/she said that the victim passenger did not want to report the matter to the police as the accused student had apologized and complaining could jeopardize his/her career. However, the airline took a serious note of it and reported the matter to the Air Traffic Control (ATC) at IGI Airport. After the crew came to know about the incident, they informed the pilot who informed ATC about the matter. The ATC informed the Central Industrial Security Force who handed over the accused passenger to the Delhi Police. Another source at the airport said, “The airline’s own security team along with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) swung into action after learning about the incident. The accused was immediately taken into custody after alighting from the aircraft. The police is recording the statements of the people concerned. According to civil aviation rules, if a passenger is found guilty of unruly behaviour, he/she can be banned from flying for a specified period. This is the second incident of a drunken passenger urinating on a co-traveller in the last few months. A similar incident took place on Air India’s New York-Delhi flight on November 26 in which a passenger named Shankar Mishra allegedly urinated on an elderly woman in an inebriated state. The incident came to light after about a month through a media report following which an FIR was registered and Mishra was arrested. he/she was released on bail after being in jail for about a month. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation had imposed a fine of Rs 30 lakh on Air India for not reporting the incident within 12 hours, as per rules. Delhi Police is probing the matter while Mishra has been banned from flying for four months.
