This agreement is also going to improve the trade relations between the two countries. India-Australia aims to increase bilateral trade to 100 billion Australian dollars by 2030.

Under AI-ECTA, both the countries are committed to facilitate the movement of each other’s citizens and increase cultural exchange. A major aspect of this initiative is the introduction of ‘Work and Holiday Visa’ for Indian citizens. Under this visa program, Indians will be allowed to travel to Australia for one year, work and study there.

Understand ‘Work and Holiday Visa’

Under AI-ECTA, Australia is going to grant 1000 multiple-entry ‘Work and Holiday Visa’ (Subclass 462) to Indian citizens every year. Under this visa, young people will get the opportunity to work temporarily along with traveling in Australia. This visa is valid for 12 months i.e. one year. During this period, visa holders can not only work in Australia, but will also be given the opportunity to study.

Eligibility Criteria for Australia Visa

  • Valid Indian Passport: You must have a valid Indian passport at the time of application.
  • Age Limit: The age of the applicant should be between 18 to 30 years.
  • Not being in Australia: The applicant must be outside Australia at the time the visa is issued.

  • Purpose of holidays: The main purpose of going to Australia should be to spend holidays. But they can also work together temporarily.
  • Return journey details: The applicant must have a return ticket or sufficient funds to purchase it.
  • Required funds: The applicant must prove that he/she has enough money to cover his/her own expenses during his/her stay in and visit to Australia.
  • Health and Character Requirements: Applicants must meet Australian health and character standards.
