Australia scored 303 runs in their first innings against England in the 5th and final Test match of the ongoing Ashes series in Hobart. Travis Head scored 101 runs for the hosts while Cameron Graeme contributed 74 runs.

England’s poor start
England got off to a poor start in reply to Australia’s 303 in the first innings. He lost the wicket of opener Rory Burns cheaply on the fourth ball of the second over of the innings. Burns was run out by Marnus Labuschagne. When Burns got out, only 2 runs were added to the total score of England. Travis Head’s century helped Australia recover from a poor start of 12 for 3 as they posted 241 for 6 on the rain-hit first day. Head, who scored 152 in the first Test in Brisbane, played an aggressive 101 off 113 balls to not allow England to capitalize on their early success in the day-night Test. Cameron Green also made an important contribution of 74 runs. Marnash Labusen scored 44 runs. Head and Green put on 121 runs for the fifth wicket. After half an hour of T’s rest, the play could not be played further in the day due to rain. David Warner (nil), Usman Khawaja (six) and Steve Smith (nil) had returned to the pavilion by the time Head stepped into the crease in the 10th over after Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. On wickets looking favorable to the bowlers, Ollie Robinson (2 for 24) and Stuart Broad (2 for 48) did the main damage to Australia. Head, who could not play in the Sydney Test due to corona virus infection, first took the position by sharing a 71-run partnership with Labuschagne. When Labuschagne did not even open the account, then Jock Crowley dropped his catch at second slip which cost England dearly. Labuschagne made some good shots on Chris Woakes (1 for 50) and Mark Wood (1 for 79) but he slipped and got bowled while trying to play Broad across the line. In the second session, Head and Green made some good shots on either side of the wicket. Head, after completing his century, was caught at mid-on by Woakes. He hit 12 fours in his innings. Green played 109 balls and hit eight fours before being dismissed by Wood. Alex Carey was on 10 when the stumps were dislodged while Mitchell Starc is yet to open the account. Australia have already won the series by winning the first three matches. The fourth Test played in Sydney ended in a draw.
