Assembly elections may be held in Jharkhand-Maharashtra after Diwali, Election Commission will first take stock of the situation

New Delhi : After Jammu-Kashmir and Haryana, the process of conducting assembly elections has started in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. After reviewing the election preparations here on September 23-24 before holding the assembly elections in Jharkhand, the Chief Election Commissioner will take stock of the situation here under the leadership of Rajiv Kumar on Friday and Saturday before holding the assembly elections in Maharashtra. After this the Commission will decide when elections should be held in these two states. It is expected that elections for both the states may be announced after Diwali. Elections can be announced any time after the counting of Jammu-Kashmir and Haryana.

Announcement may be made after October 8

Sources of the Commission say that although its final decision will be taken by the Commission itself, but after the final third phase of voting in Jammu and Kashmir on October 1 and in Haryana on October 5, the Commission will not announce elections for these two states anytime. Can do. There is more possibility of announcement after the result is declared on 8th October.

Election Commission will review the situation

Sources said that Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar, Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Dr. S. S. Sandhu will review all the conditions for holding assembly elections in Maharashtra. Here, the election process in the state will be taken forward only after talking in detail to the CEO of Maharashtra, the Police Chief and other top officials of the government, as well as all the political parties and other people. Earlier in Maharashtra, which has 288 seats, the 2019 elections were held along with Haryana. The tenure of Maharashtra Assembly is ending on 26 November. Before this the Commission has to conduct elections here.

Commission has already reviewed in Jharkhand

Before going to Maharashtra to review the elections, the Commission had gone to Ranchi on 23rd and 24th September and reviewed the holding of assembly elections in Jharkhand. In October-November, various political parties had raised issues like Diwali, Chhath, Durga Puja and State Foundation Day and said that voting dates should not be kept on these days. The tenure of Jharkhand Assembly will end on 5 November 2024. In such a situation, the Commission is getting time to conduct assembly elections in Jharkhand. In such a situation, elections can be held here between the last week of November and December. Although there is no major problem of Naxalism in the state now, still the Commission will announce the dates of elections here keeping in mind all the festivals and law and order including Naxalism.
