Asia Cup 2023Asia Cup 2023, IND vs NEP: The Indian cricket team has qualified for the Super 4 by defeating the Nepal team by 10 wickets in their second match of the Asia Cup. Batting first in this match, the Nepal team scored 230 runs losing 10 wickets. In response, due to rain, Team India got a target of 145 runs in 23 overs. In response, Team India captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill won the team without any wicket on the basis of brilliant half-centuries. Now Team India will once again face Pakistan in Super 4 on 10th September.
Rohit-Gil’s brilliant innings
India and Pakistan made it to the Super Four with three points each while Nepal crashed out of the tournament after losing both their matches. The match between India and Pakistan was abandoned due to rain. In this match also, due to rain, the game could not be played for about three hours. When India scored 17 runs without loss in 2.1 overs, play was stopped for almost two hours due to rain. After this, India got a target of 145 runs in 23 overs by Duckworth-Lewis method. India won by scoring 147 runs without loss in 20.1 overs. Rohit scored an unbeaten 74 off 59 balls with the help of 6 fours and 5 sixes while Gill scored an unbeaten 67 off 62 balls which included 8 fours and 1 six. Asif Sheikh (58 off 97 balls) and Kushal Bhurtel (38 off 25 balls) got off to a good start for Nepal, who were bowled out for 104 in their last match against Pakistan, adding 65 runs for the first wicket. In the lower order, Sompal made a useful contribution of 48 off 56 balls. The Indian bowlers failed to make an impact against the inexperienced Nepalese batsmen.
Great performance by these bowlers
For India, Ravindra Jadeja took 3 wickets for 40 runs, but the second spinner Kuldeep Yadav (34 runs in 10 overs) did not get any success. Among the fast bowlers, Mohammad Siraj took 3 wickets for 61 runs while Mohammad Shami, Shardul Thakur and Hardik Pandya got one wicket each. India’s opening pair, however, got good batting practice. He took an aggressive approach from the beginning. Gill scored 12 runs while Rohit extended his innings by 4 runs when the game resumed after rain. Both of them targeted Nepal’s leading spinner Sandeep Lamichhane. When Rohit was on 16, Lamichhane could have got his wicket but Gulshan Jha could not catch it at deep square leg and the ball went for 6 runs. Rohit and Gill then batted in their natural style to complete the century partnership in 13.4 overs. Rohit meanwhile completed his half-century off 39 balls. Gill then hit Lamichhane for a four and completed his fifty in 47 balls. He also hit the winning four later.

Earlier, India’s fielding was very poor. He had a chance to send both Nepal’s opening batsmen to the pavilion on the first 7 balls of the match, but Shreyas Iyer dropped Bhurtel’s catch on the last ball of the first over of Shami’s innings, while Virat Kohli got Asif easy on Siraj’s first ball. Dropped the catch. Ishaan Kishan also gave life to Bhurtel. Nepal’s batsmen then tried their best to put pressure on the Indian bowlers by taking the ball to the boundary line at regular intervals. Nepal scored 65 runs for one wicket in 10 overs of the first powerplay which included 7 fours and 2 sixes. India’s first breakthrough came in the 10th over when Thakur got Bhurtel caught behind, who hit three fours and two sixes in his innings. Nepal scored only 12 runs in the next five overs and meanwhile lost the wicket of Bhim Sharkey (07) who played Jadeja’s ball in his wickets. Jadeja did not allow captain Rohit Podel (05) and Kushal Malla (02) to survive either. Asif completed his half-century off 88 balls, but after that Siraj forced him to be caught at short cover and this time Kohli also made no mistake.
