India vs Australia, ODI Series 2023: Team India was announced on 18 September for the 3-match ODI series against Australia before the ODI World Cup. The most surprising decision for the fans was the return of experienced off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to the ODI team after 21 months. Ashwin has been included in the team for all three matches of the series and now it is also being speculated that he can be included in the team for the ODI World Cup also.
Ravichandran Ashwin played his last match in 50 overs format for the Indian team against South Africa in the beginning of the year 2022. Ashwin, who played his first ODI match in 2010, was an important member of Team India in this format till 2017. After this, he had to lose his place due to the arrival of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. 37-year-old Ashwin was a part of the team when India won the World Cup in 2011. Ashwin has played 10 matches in the ODI World Cup so far and has taken 17 wickets at an average of 24.88.
Considering Ashwin’s experience after Axar Patel’s injury in the Asia Cup, he has been included in the series against Australia. Ashwin can also play the role of a better batsman in the lower order. So far, Ashwin has taken 151 wickets at an average of 33.5 in 113 ODI matches for the Indian team. At the same time, he has scored 707 runs with the bat, which also includes a half-century innings.
Ashwin took only 5 wickets in the last 5 ODIs
If we look at Ashwin’s performance in the last 5 matches in ODI, it has not been anything special. Ashwin took only 1 wicket while playing 2 matches in the 3-match ODI series against South Africa in January 2022. Earlier, in the 5-match ODI series played on the West Indies tour in 2017, Ashwin got a chance to play in 2 matches and in this he could take only 4 wickets. Whereas in the Champions Trophy final of 2017, Ashwin was not successful in taking even a single wicket.
