As soon as the trailer of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ was released, the makers were accused again, Hollywood artist said – my work was stolen

After the release of the ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ trailer, Hollywood concept artists Oliver Beck and Sung Choi accused Vaijayanti Movies of stealing their artwork. They also posted about it on Twitter. Now in an interview, Beck revealed that the makers of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ had initially approached him/her to work on the film. However, things did not work out and he/she later noticed that his/her work was plagiarized in the trailer released on June 10. Both Oliver Beck and Sung Choi shared a collage of their work along with the trailer. Choi later deleted his/her tweet, but Beck has maintained his/her allegations against the makers of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’. Beck revealed that Choi’s tweet inspired him/her to watch the trailer, where he/she saw many similarities to his/her work. Speaking to ‘Indian Express’, he/she said, ‘Sung Choi wrote on Twitter about his/her work being plagiarized in Kalki 2898 AD trailer and then I clicked on the trailer and saw that it was taken from my work as well.’

Beck talked about this and said, ‘It can be hard to spot plagiarism when you are not an artist. You may not see it right away, but all my artist friends that I have talked to and all such people know that it was taken from my work and you can see that it is not an exact copy but matches my work. It is a huge coincidence because they had also approached me to work on this film. So, they know my portfolio and they have seen my work so it is a huge coincidence.’

Will Oliver Beck take action?

Regarding legal action, Oliver Beck said that it would be challenging as his/her work was not directly copied. he/she said, ‘In terms of legal consequences, in my case, I can’t do much because my work was not directly copied. In order to have legal consequences, it should be clear. Like in Sung Choi’s case because they copied-pasted his/her work.’

Despite contacting the makers of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, there has been no response regarding the allegations. Directed by Nag Ashwin, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ stars some of the biggest names in the Indian film industry, including Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Prabhas, Kamal Haasan and Disha Patani. The film is scheduled to release in theaters on June 27.
