Arrest or surrender? Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother’s new move, Anmol applied for asylum in America

New Delhi : Anmol Bishnoi, younger brother of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, has applied for asylum in the US through his/her lawyer. Sources said Bishnoi, who was taken into custody last week, is lodged in Pottawattamie County Jail in Iowa. This jail, popularly known as ‘Squirrel Cage Jail’, was mentioned in an old radio program called ‘Gang Busters’. Anmol’s details were on the jail’s website and his/her name was mentioned as Anmol Bishnoi. It said he/she was being investigated by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement). The department deals with cross-border crime and undocumented immigration. However, Anmol’s arrest in the US was due to information shared by the Indian government about his/her illegal entry into the country.

Surrendered deliberately!

However, sources have suggested that he/she may have deliberately surrendered to US authorities as a tactical move to seek asylum. This development has happened after Mumbai Police initiated extradition proceedings against him/her. Before being detained, Anmol Bishnoi had applied for asylum through the US Citizenship and Immigration Services, a division of the Department of Homeland Security, sources said.

At present extradition of Anmol is not possible

Now that he/she has initiated asylum proceedings through legal channels, it is unlikely that he/she will be extradited to India or any other country. The US legal system’s tendency to grant bail in such cases, coupled with the precedent set by the release of gangster Goldie Brar, increases the likelihood that Anmol may avoid extradition to India. Sources said that Brar has also applied for asylum.

Confirmation will be done through voice sample and DNA match.

Additionally, there is a possibility that Canadian police may try to reach him/her in connection with some gang-related cases being investigated by the RCMP. Sources said the FBI is in the process of confirming Anmol’s identity. Possibly through voice sample or DNA match. Officials from the US agency, which confirmed his/her presence in the US earlier this month, are in touch with Indian agencies for follow-up processes, including his/her deportation.

Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother Anmol is an accused in several high-profile cases. A red notice has been issued by Interpol against Anmol. Anmol recent cases include the murder of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddiqui and the firing incident outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s residence in Mumbai. Anmol is also accused of providing arms and logistics support to the shooters of Sidhu Moosewala, who was killed on May 29, 2022.
