Army’s big planning to eliminate terrorists, fielded BMP-2, enemies of the country will not be able to escape

New Delhi: The operation against terrorists in Asan area of Sunderbani sector of Jammu was special in the sense that for the first time the Army used BMP-2 for mobility. Some people are posting pictures of BMP on social media and calling it a tank, but there is a lot of difference between a tank and a BMP. BPM is a vehicle carrying soldiers, with a cannon attached to the front. Canon was not used. BPM was used as a secure vehicle for the safety of soldiers during operations. The operation was over in two days
The place where the army was conducting the operation against the terrorists is an open field area in the middle of the forest. There would have been difficulty in movement with any other vehicle, hence BMP was used. In this, soldiers also remain safe from the firing of terrorists. Using BMP-2, the army ended the operation in two days. If the operation takes place in an urban area, the army uses armored vehicles like Casper.

BMPs are infantry carrier vehicles (ICVs) that carry troops and weapons. There are currently around 2000 ICVs in the mechanized infantry of the Indian Army. These are the Russian ICV BMP-2. These are of two types. One is tracked i.e. runs on tracks like a tank and the other is wheeled i.e. runs on tyres. BMP-2 are amphibious, meaning they can easily cross rivers and streams.

Difference between BMP and tank
BMP and tank both are different. Both are armoured. Tracked BMP and tank have similar way of moving. You must have seen their wheels attached to chains. But the specialties and uses of both are different. BMP is used by the mechanized infantry of the army and the tank is a part of the armored regiment of the army. Tank is also called Armored Fighting Vehicle i.e. AFV. Whereas BMP is Infantry Carrier Vehicle i.e. ICV. The full form of BMP is Boyevaya Mashina Pekhoty, it is a Russian word which means Infantry Fighting Vehicle.

To keep the speed of infantry soldiers at the same level as that of tanks, mechanized infantry along with armored squads are required. BMP is required for this. The layer of a tank is not as thick as that of a BMP. It has been designed for protection from small arms. The firing system in BMP is different from that of the tank. BMPs fire cannon. The cannon round is slightly larger than a normal weapon. The gun of BMP is small and thin while that of tank is big and wide. Indian Army has BMP-1 and BMP-2. BMP-2 is the upgraded version
