Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi on a two-day visit to Manipur, discussed security situation with CM


New Delhi: Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi arrived in Manipur on Friday on a two-day visit. he/she met the Chief Minister and also discussed the security situation. On reaching Manipur, the Army Chief took information about operational preparations from the commanders deployed at the ground level. General Upendra Dwivedi also held discussions with the heads of various security agencies in the state.

Army Chief discussed internal security

In a crucial meeting with Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, the Army Chief discussed the internal security situation and the role of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles in the early return of peace and stability in Manipur. The Army Chief also reiterated the Indian Army’s commitment towards ensuring a safe and secure environment for the people of Manipur.

There was violence in Manipur last year

Ethnic violence broke out in Manipur on 3 May 2023 in which more than 220 people were killed and more than 50 thousand people were displaced. The situation has still not returned to normal there. There is also a demand for a political solution to stop ethnic violence and the people of the Kuki community are demanding a Union Territory with an assembly for the hills. General Upendra Dwivedi also interacted with the soldiers and praised them for their operational preparedness, readiness and dedication to duty. The Army Chief also met ex-servicemen.

CRPF battalion will be deployed

According to sources, two battalions of Assam Rifles are being removed from Manipur and sent to Arunachal Pradesh. The process of deployment of CRPF battalion in place of two battalions of Assam Rifles in Manipur has also started (handing-taking over). At the same time, two battalions of Assam Rifles from Arunachal Pradesh have started going to Jammu and Kashmir. The first advance party left on 18 August and the second advance party left on 19 August.
