Army Chief General Pandey gets one month extension in service, big decision of government amid Lok Sabha elections

New Delhi: Amid the Lok Sabha elections, the government on Sunday, in an unusual move, gave a one-month extension to Army Chief General Manoj Pandey and will now continue in the post till June 30. General Pandey was to retire on May 31. The Defense Ministry said in a statement that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the one-month extension of service of General Pandey. The Defense Ministry said in a statement, ‘The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, under Rule 16A (4) of the Army Rules, 1954, has granted one month extension in service to Army Chief General Manoj C Pandey, effective from the date of his/her superannuation (May 31). ) onwards till 30th June.

Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi, currently serving as the ‘Vice Chief of Army Staff’, is the senior most officer after General Pandey. After Lieutenant General Dwivedi, the senior most officer is Lieutenant General Ajay Kumar Singh who is the Southern Army Commander. Both Army officers, Lieutenant General Dwivedi and Lieutenant General Singh are course classmates.
