Insomnia (insomnia) is a problem due to which many people are troubled today. This is a sleep related problem, due to which people suffering from it have difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. That means, either the patient does not sleep at all at night or has frequent intermittent sleep.

Ignoring insomnia for a long time can increase the risk of developing chronic diseases. Besides, this problem of sleeplessness can also increase the chances of getting many serious diseases including diabetes, heart disease, obesity, stroke, cancer. In such a situation, you can take help of yoga to get relief from this problem.

According to an NIH report (ref), an older study from 2004 found that practicing yoga daily helped people with insomnia improve sleep efficiency, total sleep time, and sleep, among other improvements. There was an improvement in how quickly the participants fell asleep. In such a situation, you can also get relief from this problem by practicing some yoga asanas daily.

Balasana

Balasana is such a yoga, through which you can get many benefits. This asana is called Child’s Pose in English. Doing Balasana reduces stress and anger, which leads to good sleep. Apart from this, its practice also provides relief from waist, shoulder, neck, back, joint and muscle pain. It is very easy to practice.

To do this, first of all sit on a mat with your knees and make a small gap between the knees. Now, while inhaling, lift both the hands straight above the head and while exhaling, bend forward. Slowly bend your head towards the ground and keep both hands straight in front on the floor. Stay in this posture for 2 to 3 minutes. During this, take a long breath in and exhale. After this, come back to the previous pose.

One can remain fit both mentally and physically through Viparita Karni Yogasana. This asana is also considered beneficial in insomnia. Actually, by doing this pose the body gets relief, blood circulation improves and fatigue and stress are reduced, which leads to good sleep.

To do this, lie down on a mat and slowly rest your feet on the wall. While doing this pose, your waist should be straight and keep your hands straight on the floor. Try to stay in this pose for about 5 to 15 minutes. Practice this before sleeping.

Along with strengthening the muscles, this yoga asana helps in reducing headache, fatigue, stress and anxiety and keeps the mind calm. By practicing this one can get rid of insomnia. By practicing Uttanasana daily, you start falling asleep within a few minutes of lying down on the bed.

Now let us know the way to do it. To do Uttanasana, first stand straight on a yoga mat and take both hands upwards while taking a long breath. Then while exhaling, bring your hands down to the ground and try to touch the toes of your feet. Remain in this position for 15 to 30 seconds. Then come back to the previous posture.
