Amol Palekar said- People liked me because I was neither Dharmendra nor an angry young man.

Veteran Bollywood actor and filmmaker Amol Palekar is known for art films. After acting, he/she is now playing his/her role in films as a director. The actor believes that he/she was different from stars like Dharmendra, Amitabh, that is why people liked him/her. Amol Palekar is one of those Bollywood actors who lived life on his/her own terms and this is also reflected in the roles of a common man in his/her films. Palekar has recalled his/her life and artistic journey through his/her book. The title of this book is ‘Aivaz’ in Marathi and ‘Viewfinder’ in English.

Did films like ‘Rajnigandha’ to ‘Golmaal’

This book also contains his/her life story and film journey. he/she is known for films of the 70s and 80s like ‘Rajnigandha’, ‘Chhoti Si Baat’, ‘Chitchor’, ‘Golmaal’, ‘Naram Garam’ and other films.

‘People liked that I was Dharmendra, not Amitabh’

he/she is going to celebrate his/her 80th birthday this month. While talking to ‘PTI-Bhasha’ in an interview, he/she said, ‘I was not the kind of hero often seen in films and this is what people liked. People liked that I was not Dharmendra (he/she-Man), I was not the angry young man (Amitabh Bachchan) or the romantic hero Rajesh Khanna. I couldn’t even dance as well as Jitendra. People liked me not being like them.

One dilemma was how to get out of the star image.

he/she said, ‘If I wanted, I could have done it on my own terms but I didn’t. I don’t know how this happened. I am grateful to life for this. he/she said that one of his/her dilemmas was how to break away from the star image. he/she said, ‘When you become a star, you also get an image. I was someone who always wanted to try something new and different. To do this you cannot be bound to the star image.
