Amidst the violence that erupted again in Manipur, two battalions of Assam Rifles started leaving, know the whole matter

New Delhi : In Manipur, which has been burning in the fire of ethnic violence for more than a year, tension has increased again and violence has taken place in the last few days. The tension has increased again in the buffer zones created between the Meitei and Kuki communities and amid this tension, two battalions of Assam Rifles have started withdrawing from there. A few days ago, Manipur Police issued a statement that Kuki rebels fired on civilian population using drones. This is being investigated. Tensions have increased again amidst the efforts and hopes of peace in Manipur. In such a situation, while the Meitei community is happy with the departure of two battalions of Assam Rifles from here and the deployment of CRPF in their place, the Kuki community is continuously opposing it.

Two units of Assam Rifles sent to Jammu

According to sources, two units of Assam Rifles have been removed from Jaluki and Ghaspani in North East and sent to Jammu and about 50 percent of the soldiers have gone there. In their place, two battalions from Manipur are to be sent here. According to sources, 9 Assam Rifles Battalion has already started being sent to Jaluki from Kangboi in Manipur and an advance party with about 100 soldiers has gone there. In their place, soldiers of CRPF’s 58 battalion have come. According to sources, about 5 companies of CRPF have come to Imphal but only about one and a half companies of CRPF have come to Kangboi (Manipur).

CRPF jawans will be deployed

In Kangboi, a buffer zone has been created between the population of the Meitei community and the Kuki community so that violence can be prevented. According to sources, CRPF jawans have been deployed in the areas of the Meitei community only because the Kuki community is constantly opposing the deployment of CRPF by removing Assam Rifles. The 22nd Assam Rifles Battalion is also to be removed from Kangchuk in Manipur and sent to Ghaspani. Here too, the Kuki community is opposing the arrival of CRPF. According to sources, Assam Rifles has not yet been informed about which CRPF battalion will come here, although Assam Rifles has told CRPF that they will move their battalion from here by September 20.

The central force remains a mute spectator… what is happening in Manipur deserves a question

Why are Assam Rifles being removed from Manipur

Ethnic violence broke out in Manipur on 3 May 2023 in which more than 220 people were killed and more than 50 thousand people were displaced. A deep rift developed between the Meitei and Kuki communities. Manipur BJP MLA Rajkumar Imo Singh has written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah saying that if the presence of central forces does not stop the violence, then they should be recalled from the state. BJP MLA Rajkumar Imo Singh is also the son-in-law of Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

One community wants it, the other is unhappy

While the Kuki community wants Assam Rifles in Manipur, the Meitei community has been accusing Assam Rifles of supporting the Kuki community and is happy with the removal of two battalions of Assam Rifles. However, if we look at the statistics of the last few months, Assam Rifles have arrested more than 200 Kuki rebels and recovered more than 1000 weapons looted from the police from the Kuki rebels. But on the other hand, the people of the Kuki community are afraid of the removal of Assam Rifles in both Kangchuk and Kangboi and they say that violence against them may increase due to the departure of Assam Rifles.
