Amidst the Champions Trophy controversy, Jay Shah takes charge as the new boss of World Cricket, how long will his/her tenure be?

New Delhi. Jay Shah has assumed his/her charge as the President of ICC. Outgoing BCCI’s Sachin Jai Shah has taken Indian cricket to new heights. Now he/she will sit in the highest body of cricket and run world cricket. he/she is the fifth Indian to lead this global organization. Thirty-six-year-old Shah has been the BCCI secretary for the last five years. he/she was the unanimous choice of the ICC Board of Directors. Shah replaced New Zealand lawyer Greg Barclay, who was not interested in continuing for a third consecutive term.

Before Jay Shah, businessman late Jagmohan Dalmiya, politician Sharad Pawar, lawyer Shashank Manohar and industrialist N Srinivasan have been among the Indians who have led the world cricket body. The tenure of Jai Shah, son of Indian Home Minister Amit Shah, will begin with challenges as the ICC needs to find an acceptable solution to implement the ‘hybrid model’ for the Champions Trophy scheduled in Pakistan.

August 27 was the last date for nomination for the election of the new ICC chairman. Apart from Jai Shah, no one nominated for this post till the stipulated time. After this the ICC Executive Board declared Jay Shah the unopposed winner. 35 year old Jay Shah has also become the youngest to become ICC Chairman. Jay Shah has been holding the post of BCCI Secretary since 2019.

Tenure is of 6 years
The tenure of ICC Chairman is 6 years. This six-year tenure is divided into three parts of two years each. Greg Barclay of New Zealand stayed on this post for 4 years. he/she had told the ICC that he/she was not interested in a third term of two years. Since then, Jai Shah’s claim was considered the strongest. As expected, no one contested against Jai Shah. In this way Jai Shah was elected unopposed.
