Amid the ban on the release of ‘Emergency’, co-producers reached Bombay HC, decision on Kangana’s film today

Zee Entertainment Enterprises, the co-producer company of ‘Emergency’, has approached the Bombay High Court demanding the release of the film and a censor certificate. In the petition filed, the company claimed that the censor board has arbitrarily and illegally withheld the censor certificate of the film. There are protests in Punjab regarding the film, and Sikh organizations have demanded a ban on it. In view of the controversy, the release of the film has been postponed.

Controversy over the film ‘Emergency’ and the claims of co-producers

‘Emergency’ is based on the life of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, which is causing controversy. Sikh organizations including Shiromani Akali Dal have accused the makers of the film of hurting the sentiments of Sikhs and showing them in a wrong image. They also demanded a ban on the release of the film. ‘Emergency’ was to be released in theaters on September 6, but the censor board has not given it a certificate yet. Kangana Ranaut has played the role of Indira Gandhi in ‘Emergency’. She is also the director of the film.

Sikh organizations allege that their community and the events related to it have been presented in a distorted manner in ‘Emergency’. In a petition filed in the Bombay High Court, the film’s co-producer Kampani has filed a petition that the certification of his/her film has been arbitrarily stopped by the Censor Board. According to a lawyer, the petition claims that the Censor Board is ready with the certificate, but is not issuing it. The petition was placed before a division bench of Justices BP Colabawala and Firdosh Pooniwala for urgent hearing, which will now be heard on Wednesday, September 4.

‘Emergency’ is based on the Emergency imposed in the country in the year 1975. Apart from Kangana, the film also stars Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman and late actor Satish Kaushik.
