American students also study in India
According to the ‘Institute of International Education Open Doors Report 2020’, more than 3300 American students were studying in India in 2018-19. Data from the US State Department showed that this number came down to 1736 in 2019-20. Most of these students study in the country’s top educational institutions like IIT or IIM. This shows that the number of American students in India is less. However, on the contrary, millions of Indian students are studying in America.
US ambassador recalls moments spent in India
US Ambassador Eric Garcetti said he/she first visited India when he/she was 14. he/she then visited India again when he/she was 19 when he/she was going to college. Garcetti recalled the learnings he/she got from India and the impact educational trips to the country had on prospective students.
“When I read many of the great religious, philosophical, historical texts of India it changed my life and perspective. If we are going to build a human bridge, we have to know each other and understand our history,” he/she said.
Partnership in education is growing between India and America
As India and the US strengthen their diplomatic ties, education has become a key factor in building the relationship. In April 2023, the Association of American Universities launched a task force in line with the US-India Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies. This task force is focusing on expanding the US-India university partnership. It has promoted research between the two countries. Students have got the opportunity to visit each other’s countries, internship opportunities have increased and apprenticeships are being promoted.
