The 'American Society for Engineering Education' (ASEE) reported that by the third year, 40% of American engineering students either change their course or leave their studies. The main reason for this is not understanding the study of courses related to maths. Without basic knowledge of Maths, engineering seats remain vacant, which will cause shortage of engineers in the future.What is the 'good news' for Indians?America cannot meet the demand for engineers through its own students. Because of this he/she has to depend on foreign engineers. The H-1B visa program allows American companies to hire skilled foreign workers. H-1B visa program is useful in recruiting foreign workers in fields ranging from IT to engineering. According to US government data, 70% of H-1B visas have been granted to Indian skilled workers who are working in the engineering and technology sectors.However, if there is a similar shortage of engineers in America, then it will have to hire people from countries like India. If this happens, there will be immense job opportunities for Indians in the engineering sector. It will also become easier for them to obtain H-1B visa. At present, 65 thousand H-1B visas are available every year, the number of which can be increased due to the increasing demand for engineers.
