Types of US Student Visa: To study abroad, any student needs a visa along with the university admission letter. There is a different type of visa for every work. Like travel visa for travelling, work visa for working and student visa for studying. If we talk about student visa, then it shows the permission given by the government of a country to come and study in that country. A student visa is also required to go to America to study.

When Indian students take admission in America, they have to get a student visa from the American Embassy before starting their studies there. To get the visa, one has to give an interview and then various types of visas are issued as per the requirement. Just like a passport makes you eligible to travel to a country, a visa is your entry ticket to that country. How many types of student visas are there in America?

The US government issues three types of visas for students, known as F, J and M. Before applying for all three types of visas, the student must have an admission letter from an American institution.

F-1 view: This visa is given to those students who come to America to study Bachelors or Masters degree. Students who come to study English at the English Language Institute are also given F-1 visa. This is a full-time visa. This means that this visa will remain valid until the studies are completed.

J-1 Visa: This visa is known as an exchange visa. Many universities and colleges in America have started exchange programs with foreign institutions. Under this, a student studying in a foreign university gets a chance to come and study in an American university for a few semesters. This visa is given to students coming to America to study under the exchange program.

M-1 view: This is different from the three types of visas available for studying in America. If a student comes to America for part-time vocational courses or non-academic study or training, then he/she is given this visa. Usually, students get this visa to study things like arts, theatre, film making in some universities.
