The number of people traveling from India to America has increased five times in the last four years. More than 20 lakh Indians went to America in the first 11 months of 2024. This is 26 percent more than the same period in 2023. The US Embassy said that more than 50 lakh Indians already have non-immigrant visas to go to America. New visas are being issued daily by the embassy. The number of people going to America for business and studies is increasing every year.
H-1B visa will be renewed in America only
The US Embassy said that this year the State Department ran a pilot program to renew H-1B visas in America itself, which has been successful. Because of this program, Indian skilled workers have got the facility to renew their visas without leaving America. This pilot program has made the renewal process easier for thousands of people. Now the State Department is working on making it a permanent program in 2025. Currently Indians have to come to India for renewal.
How many Indian students got student visa?
The US Embassy has also given information about student visas given to Indian students. It said that more Indian students now have student visas than before. In 2024, India became the largest foreign student sending country for the first time since the 2008/2009 academic year. Overall, more than 3,31,000 Indian students are studying in America. India was also the country sending the largest number of foreign graduate students to America for the second consecutive year.
The Embassy said that the number of Indian graduate students has seen an increase of 19 percent and their number has reached about 2 lakh. Here, by graduate students, the embassy means those students who are pursuing master’s degree.
