New Delhi. The ICC has taken a historic decision regarding prize money. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has said that now the men’s and women’s teams will get equal prize money in the World Cup. This will start with the Women’s T20 World Cup to be held next month. The Women’s T20 World Cup is to be held in the United Arab Emirates from October 3.

According to the ICC statement, the winning team in the Women’s T20 World Cup will now get 23 lakh 40 thousand dollars (about 19.60 crores rupees). Australia received a prize money of 1 million US dollars (8.40 crores rupees) for winning the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 last year. In this way, the prize money has increased by 134 percent. The Indian men’s team received a prize money of 23 lakh 40 thousand dollars for winning the T20 World Cup 2024 this year.

The total prize money of the Women’s T20 World Cup will now be 79 lakh 58 thousand dollars, which is 225 percent more than the total amount of the tournament played last year (24.50 lakh dollars). Out of this prize money, the runner-up will get a prize money of 11.70 lakh dollars. The teams losing in the semi-finals will now get 675,000 dollars. Teams will get 31,154 dollars for each win during the group stage.

The ICC said on Tuesday, ‘Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be the first ICC tournament in which women will get equal prize money as men. This will be a significant achievement in the history of this sport.’ The decision to equalize the prize money was taken in July 2023 at the ICC Annual Conference. The ICC Board decided to equalize the prize money seven years before its pre-determined 2030 schedule. In this way, cricket has become the first major sport in which the World Cup has equal prize money for men and women.
