Alia Bhatt: Ranbir and I are very different, we understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses

The lights of Diwali are all around, how do you view this festival of lights?
I look at it with great positivity. I like the way we decorate our houses with lights on this day. On this occasion, the company of family, friends and loved ones increases the happiness of the festival. Cleaning the house on this occasion gives more positivity. I eat a lot of sweets on such occasions, because I like sweets anyway. Festivals strengthen our traditions and families. Our Diwali parties have started. I am very happy that this time on Diwali I am at home with my daughter and family. I am spending time with them and eating my favorite food.

Talking about your career, when did you decide that you would become an actress?
At the age of just four, I had decided that I would become a heroine. I remember that day I was watching a film of Govinda and Karisma Kapoor, in which both of them were singing on the road. At that time I was surprised to see that both of them were dancing and also changing clothes quickly. I thought this is amazing, how and from where they are changing clothes, I also want to do the same. It was from there that the acting bug bit me. I also played a small role in Sangharsh and after that I was convinced that I just wanted to act in front of the camera.You have always said that your sister and mom are your support system.
Since forever! My mother is my inspiration and Shaheen is my support system and ray of happiness. These two are very strong and thoughtful women in my life, from whom I learn something every day. I am able to share anything with my sister. She is not from this industry and whenever she talks about my work or films, she does so objectively. his/her ideas are very pure. My mother is my world and my father is the mirror of the world for me. My biggest support system is my younger sister and my family.

How much influence did actress mother Soni Razdan and director father Mahesh Bhatt have on your formatting years?
My mom has been a huge inspiration for me in my life. his/her passion towards acting and life inspires me a lot. he/she has always given me great strength as a person. It is not possible to describe his/her contribution in words. My father has been a constant source of inspiration for me. he/she has always told me that if someone is better than you, never say ‘I have arrived’, do your work with the same dedication and hard work.

You are carrying forward the legacy of Bhatt and Kapoor family beautifully, but do you ever feel pressure?
I can’t say pressure, but I feel proud to be a part of both these families. Both families are extremely talented thinkers and I feel blessed and grateful to have these people in my life.

How does actor husband Ranbir Kapoor compliment you?
Ranbir and I are quite different. We both think very differently and handle things differently. he/she is more of a calm nature, whereas I tend to be overthinking at times, but I think that’s why we both balance and complement each other well. We understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses and that is what makes our relationship strong.

How has motherhood changed you after the birth of Raha?
After the birth of Raha, I consider myself a completely new person. I have found only good changes in myself. Motherhood is not just one emotion, but every day passes with many emotions. It is also challenging, on one hand I am excited for Raha’s reaction and on the other hand I am a little nervous. Motherhood is a process where every day you learn a lot about yourself.

As an actress who balances career and personal life, you are an ideal, what message would you like to give to women?
Just keep going… keep working, you will fail sometimes, but what matters is how you believe in yourself and how you get back up. My message is this, never give up, if you fall, get up and keep going.
