AI will eliminate all jobs, jobs will become hobbies: Elon Musk

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said artificial intelligence (AI) will eventually eliminate all jobs, but he/she doesn’t believe that’s necessarily a bad development, CNN reports.

“Maybe none of us will have a job,” Musk said, speaking at a startup and tech event in Paris on Thursday.

Elon Musk was speaking remotely via webcam at the Viva Tech event where he/she predicted a future where jobs will be “alternative.”

he/she said, “If you want to do a job that is like a hobby, you can do the job.” “But otherwise, AI and robots will provide you with any goods and services you want,” Musk said.

Musk highlighted that for this scenario to be successful, it would require “universal high income”, not to be confused with universal basic income, however, he/she did not elaborate on the concept. .

Universal Basic Income (UBI) implies that the government provides a fixed amount of money to everyone regardless of their earnings.

“There will be no shortage of goods or services,” Musk said. he/she highlighted that AI capabilities have advanced rapidly over the past few years, moving so fast that regulators, companies and users are still figuring out how to use the technology responsibly.

Musk had earlier also expressed his/her concerns about AI. During his/her keynote speech on Thursday, he/she cited technology as his/her biggest fear. he/she cited Iain Banks’s “Culture Book Series”, a utopian fictional depiction of a society driven by advanced technology, as the most realistic and “best imagined future AI”.

Musk questioned whether people would feel emotionally fulfilled in a future without jobs.

“The question will really be one of meaning – if computers and robots can do every job better than you, does your life have any meaning?” Musk said.

he/she added, “I think there’s probably still a role for humans to play in this – in that we can give meaning to AI.”

he/she advised parents to control and limit the amount of social media their children consume, saying that social media platforms are being “programmed by dopamine-maximizing AI.”

Industry experts are constantly raising concerns about how various industries and jobs will change with the proliferation of AI in the market.

CNN reports that in January, researchers at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab found that workplaces are adopting AI more slowly than some had expected and feared. The report also noted that many jobs previously identified as AI-sensitive were not economically beneficial for employers to automate at the time.

Experts broadly believe that many jobs requiring high emotional intelligence and human interaction, such as mental health professionals, creative people, and teachers, will not need to change.
