New Delhi: ‘For the first time, the legal structure of the country was changed. The new criminal law brought freedom from slavery and ruler’s thinking. Crimes like treason were abolished. In law, not only punishment but security is also important. Strict laws have been made to prevent crimes against women and children.’ PM said these things on Saturday Narendra Modi Said. The PM had arrived at the inaugural session of the two-day National Conference of District Judiciary. PM Modi said, ‘Under the Indian Evidence Act, electronic evidence and digital evidence have been recognized as evidence. Now arrangements have been made to send summons through electronic mode. These efforts will control the pendency of cases.’ The PM also released a postage stamp and coin on the completion of 75 years of the establishment of the Supreme Court.

Efforts are being made to modernise the court- PM

Narendra Modi said, ‘The discussions that are taking place will strengthen the path of justice to all.’ Modi said that efforts are being made to modernize the courts. Continuous work is being done to ensure that justice is easily available. A meaningful parameter for the development of the country is that the standard of living of the common people improves. For this, simple and easy justice are the main components. This will be possible only when the district court is equipped with technology. Currently, there are four and a half crore cases pending in the district courts of the country.

PM Modi further said that a lot of work has been done to improve the infrastructure of the court in a decade and eight thousand crores have been spent on it. During this period, eight and a half thousand court rooms and 11 thousand residential homes have been built. Technology is being used, artificial intelligence will help. The judicial process has accelerated and courts in the country are becoming digital. The e-committee of the Supreme Court has an important role in this. This will enable assessment of pending cases. On this occasion, Chief Justice of Supreme Court DY Chandrachud, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Supreme Court and High Court Justices and District Court Judges etc. were present.

District courts are the backbone of the Indian judicial system: Chief Justice

In his/her address at the two-day national conference of district judiciary, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said that district courts are the backbone of the Indian judicial system and an important link in the governance of justice. he/she said that we should refrain from calling the district judiciary the lowest court, rather the district court is the first door for justice for the citizens. The quality of work done in the district court and the justice people get will be the basis for assessing people’s trust in the judiciary. he/she said that the district courts have an important responsibility on their shoulders and that is why they are in the role of the backbone.

During this, the Chief Justice said that a large number of records have been digitized in 2023-24 and said that 46.48 crore pages have been digitized. he/she also said that under the e-court project, 3500 court complexes and 22 thousand court rooms are being computerized. 2.3 crore cases have been heard through video conferencing in district courts across the country. he/she said that the judgments of the Supreme Court are being translated into various regional languages ​​​​(languages ​​​​listed in the schedule of the Constitution) and 73 thousand such judgments have been translated. This ceremony is being organized by the Supreme Court in Delhi.

Those who say there is a threat to the Constitution are misleading people: Manan Mishra

In the two-day national conference of district judiciary, Bar Council of India chairman Manan Kumar Mishra (BJP Rajya Sabha MP) said that there is no threat to the constitution and reservation. It is absolutely safe in the hands of the PM and the Chief Justice. People who are calling the constitution and reservation a threat are doing so for electoral gains and are misleading people. Mishra said on this occasion that PM Modi is the best PM in the world. PM Modi’s support is being sought even in the Russia and Ukraine crisis. Terming the incident of rape of a doctor in West Bengal as unfortunate, he/she said that the Supreme Court has tried to safeguard by taking cognizance and the Supreme Court took cognizance where the state failed. There is no threat to the constitution and reservation and it is absolutely safe in the hands of the PM and the Chief Justice.
