Agenda against BJP… Israeli company tried to disrupt Lok Sabha elections, OpenAI claims

New Delhi: The political temperature in the country is already high regarding the Lok Sabha elections. Meanwhile, OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, has made a big disclosure, which is likely to increase the political turmoil further. It claims that it took action within 24 hours to stop the deceptive use of AI in secret campaigns focused on the Indian elections. In such a situation, there was no significant increase in the number of people using it. OpenAI said in a report on its website that an Israeli political campaign management firm STOIC prepared some content on the Gaza conflict as well as the Indian elections. It said, “In May, the network started preparing comments focused on India, criticizing the ruling BJP and praising the opposition Congress party.” The report said, “We disrupted some activities related to the Indian elections in May within less than 24 hours of their start.”

What action did ‘OpenAI’ take?

OpenAI said it had banned a group of accounts operated from Israel that were being used to create and edit content for an influence campaign that spanned X, Facebook, Instagram, other websites and YouTube. “The campaign targeted people in Canada, the US and Israel through content in English and Hebrew. In early May, it began targeting people in India through English-language content,” it said, without giving further details.

What is the response of the Indian Government?

Reacting to the report, Minister of State for Electronics and Technology Rajiv Chandrashekhar said, “It is quite clear that the BJP was and is the target of campaigns, misinformation and foreign interference run by or on behalf of some Indian political parties.” he/she said, “This is a big threat to our democracy. It is clear that vested interests in India and outside are promoting this and it needs to be thoroughly investigated and exposed. My view at this point is that these platforms could have released it much earlier.” ‘OpenAI’ said that it is committed to developing safe and widely beneficial AI. It said that it is committed to implementing policies that prevent abuse and bring transparency about the content created with the help of AI.
