Which party’s treasure became heavy
The analysis of Venkatesh Nayak, director of the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI), shows that 22 parties – including five national parties BJP, Congress, CPM, AAP and BSP, and 17 regional parties including Trinamool Congress, DMK, BRS, TDP, YSR Congress, SP and JDU.
These parties had an initial balance of Rs 11,326 crore on the day of the announcement of general elections of Lok Sabha and four state assemblies in 2024. After raising Rs 7,416 crore during the election process and spending Rs 3,861.6 crore, 22 parties had a total closing balance of Rs 14,848 crore on the end of the election.
How much benefit BJP?
According to the study, the BJP tops the chart with the highest initial balance of Rs 5,921.8 crore and the remaining of Rs 10,107.2 crore. The main opposition party Congress ranks ninth among 22 parties in terms of initial balance, and the closing slipped to 12th position in terms of remaining. BJP declared an initial installment of Rs 5,922 crore in the general election last year, raised Rs 6,268 crore and spent Rs 1,738 crore.
However, according to the BJP’s election expenses details, it became more rich with the end of Rs 10,107 crore. The BJP was concluded was Rs 4,185 crore more than its initial balance, Rs 65.4 crore of TDP, CPM more than Rs 8 crore, LJPRV Rs 9.9 crore, SDF Rs 76 lakh and AIUDF was Rs 3.6 lakh more.
Which party expenses
CHRI analyzed the election expenses of 22 parties. he/she fielded a total of 1,595 candidates, out of which 480 were elected to the 18th Lok Sabha. This is more than 88% of the total number of Lok Sabha. According to the study, BJP raised 84.5% of the total amount received by 22 parties. The party declared a total election expenses of a total of Rs 1,738 crore, which is 45% of the total campaign expenses of 22 parties.
992 crore expenses on advertisement in media
22 parties collectively spent more than Rs 992.4 crore on media advertisements; Seven parties spent an additional Rs 196.2 crore on social media and virtual publicity. The total expenditure by all 22 parties on the journey of star campaigners was Rs 830 crore, while Rs 395.5 crore was spent on publicity material and Rs 130 crore on public meetings.
22 political parties spent a total of Rs 26.7 crore on the advertisement of criminal history of their candidates. In this, BJP spent the highest number of Rs 9 crore. The BSP spent Rs 5.9 crore in this item and the Congress spent Rs 3.3 crore.
