After Satyapal Malik, now Jagdeep Dhankhar… Is this Jat leader putting BJP in trouble?

New Delhi : Farmers’ movement is once again in discussion in the country. Along with this, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has directly raised questions on the government regarding the issue of farmers. The way Jat leader has raised the issue of Dhankhar farmers in front of the Agriculture Minister, it has reminded me of Satyapal Malik. This Jat leader, who was the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, has directly put PM Modi in the dock on the issue of farmers. The way Jat leaders are raising questions on the farmers’ issue, it is sure to put moral pressure on the central government along with BJP.

PM Modi had called me arrogant

Satyapal Malik had even called PM Modi arrogant regarding agricultural laws. Malik said that he/she had gone to discuss the issue of farmers with PM Modi but he/she had a fight with PM Modi. Malik had said in a meeting in Jaipur that when I went to meet the Prime Minister on the issue of farmers, I had a fight with him/her within five minutes. he/she was very arrogant. According to Malik, when I told him/her, 500 of our people died… he/she said, killed for me? (I) said that I had killed only for you, who have become the king… I had a fight.

Dhankhar asked sharp questions to the Agriculture Minister

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has questioned why talks are not taking place with the farmers. Dhankhar said that Agriculture Minister, every moment is important for you. I request you and as the person holding the second highest position under the Constitution of India, I urge you to please tell me.

Farmers are in trouble and are agitating. I do not understand why talks are not taking place with the farmers. This situation is not good for the overall welfare of the country. Was any promise made to the farmers, and why was that promise not kept? What are we doing to fulfill the promise.

Jagdeep Dhankhar, Vice President, during an event

he/she questioned whether any promise was made to the farmers. And why was that promise not kept? What are we doing to fulfill the promise. Last year also there was agitation, this year also there is agitation, and time is going on, but we are not doing anything. Dhankhar said, Agriculture Minister, I am feeling pain. My concern is why this initiative has not been taken till now. You are the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Malik had called PM anti-farmer

Former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and Jat leader Satyapal Malik has been attacking the Modi government on the issue of farmers. Malik has been continuously criticizing the policies of the Center in farmers’ meetings. In October 2022, Satyapal Malik had said that farmers should be ready for another movement. Satyapal Malik has also accused the central government of conspiring against the farmers.

The government backtracked on its promise to provide legal guarantee of minimum support price for crops and to withdraw cases registered against farmers during the agitation against agricultural laws. Farmers should be prepared for another movement against the government. Their eyes are on our food, land and employment. Time does not stand for anyone, if you do not stand today you will keep begging for years.

What kind of difficulty for BJP?

BJP seems to be on the back foot regarding the issue of farmers. The government continuously talks about doubling the income of farmers and purchasing them at minimum support price. At the same time, after the withdrawal of agricultural laws, the indifference on the part of the government towards fulfilling the promises made to the farmers is also clearly visible. During elections, BJP seems to be on the back foot on the issue of farmers.

From Punjab, Haryana to Western Uttar Pradesh, farmers’ resentment towards BJP is clearly visible. In such a situation, the way the Vice President has raised direct questions on the government on the issue of farmers, the party as well as the government will have to answer. In this way the Vice President has directly given the opposition an opportunity to attack the government.

Opposition also became attacker

After raising this issue on behalf of the Vice President, the opposition immediately targeted the government. On Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s statement regarding promises related to farmers, Congress said that it is also asking the same question to the government as to when the legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) will become a reality.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, citing Dhankhar’s statement, said that the Indian National Congress is continuously asking this question, Chairman Sir. When will the legal guarantee for MSP become a reality? When will Swaminathan formula be implemented to decide MSP? When will farmers get the same benefit as the capitalists have been given relief from debt?
