After retirement, Ashwin made a blast, gave statement on BCCI and selectors

New Delhi. Ravichandran Ashwin, one of India’s great spinners, has taken a dig at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the selectors. This veteran, who surprised everyone by announcing his/her retirement in the middle of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, expressed his/her views on not being selected for the captaincy of Team India. Ashwin surprised all the cricket lovers by suddenly announcing his/her retirement on 18th December. The announcement was made after the third Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 was drawn due to incessant rain at the Gabba.

R Ashwin played 287 international matches in his/her career and took 765 wickets. he/she has captained first class cricket in domestic cricket. he/she also captained Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for two seasons – 2018 and 2019. However, he/she never got a chance to captain India in Test cricket. he/she did not even get the honor of vice-captaincy in the longest format.

Ashwin said on Sky Sports Podcast, “It is interesting. I am smart enough to know what works for me and what doesn’t for someone else. When I started my career, I very soon got first class captaincy. I have won some tournaments for my team. I believed that I had this ability, but I have no regrets that I could not captain my country because these things were not in my control.”

he/she further said, “I felt that someone should feel that I am good enough to captain the team, I have to bring other 15-20 people with me so that I can captain the team. It was not meant for this chapter of my life. I don’t think this office or corporate felt that I was good enough to captain the team. This does not mean that I am not good for leadership. You don’t need a title to lead because, within me, I was a great leader in a group who was able to contribute to the success of others. I looked for areas of contribution. I did it to the best of my ability.”
