New Delhi: After the completion of Lok Sabha elections-2024, the Election Commission has now started preparations for holding assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Jharkhand and Maharashtra. In view of this, the work of updating the voter list of these four states is being started first. In this, all the youth who are turning 18 years old on July 1. They can also get their name added through this special summary revision of updating the voter list.

It is very important to update the voter list

The commission said that for this, BLOs will go to every house and ensure that the voters there have not shifted, have died or someone’s name needs to be added to the voter list. The list will be updated by taking all the information related to updating the voter list. The final publication of which will be locked after updating on August 20. Then elections will be conducted on the basis of this voter list. The commission said that the term of Haryana Legislative Assembly is ending on November 3, 2024, Jharkhand on November 26 and Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on January 5, 2025. In such a situation, assembly elections have to be held in time for these three states. For this, it is necessary to update the voter list first.

Preparations for assembly elections intensify in four states

As per the order of the Supreme Court, it is mandatory to conduct assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir before 30 September this year. In such a situation, preparations have been started to conduct assembly elections in these four states. The commission also says that during this time, how many polling stations should be made in all these states during the elections. This will also be assessed. In which polling stations will be made near the voters living in group housing societies, slums, outskirts of the city and rural areas. So that no one has to go far to cast their vote.

However, the way terrorist incidents have increased in Jammu and Kashmir recently, it will be quite challenging to conduct assembly elections in this state. Assembly elections will be held for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir after the removal of 370. There is a fear that terrorists may attack somewhere in the state before and during the elections. However, the way the voters of Jammu and Kashmir participated in the Lok Sabha elections in large numbers, the commission is very excited seeing this. The commission says that preparations have been started to conduct assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir along with Haryana, Jharkhand and Maharashtra. Officials say that strong security arrangements will be made.
