Such a place was needed for war

According to mythology, for the Mahabharata war, a place was searched where a large number of soldiers could stand and fight. The responsibility of choosing the place for this was given to Lord Krishna. When it was decided whether there would be a war, Lord Krishna ordered his/her messengers to search the place. Shri Krishna had an inkling that the war of Mahabharata was going to be bloody and gruesome. Therefore he/she was looking for a place which could bear the cruelty of war. The messengers told Shri Krishna many places, but when one of them came to Shri Krishna, he/she was in great pain.

Why only Kurukshetra for Mahabharata?

Why only Kurukshetra for Mahabharata?

The reason behind choosing Kurukshetra for Mahabharata is also quite interesting. When Lord Krishna asked the messenger the reason for his/her sadness, he/she told an incident that happened in Kurukshetra. Here there was a fight between two brothers regarding building a dam in the field. Both of them had divided the fields. To prevent water from one field from reaching another, a bund was built in the field. One day a fight broke out between the two brothers due to the breaking of the dam. The quarrel escalated so much that it reached the point of fighting and the elder brother killed the younger brother and kept his/her body at the site of a dam. Due to which irrigation water stopped.

It is said that after the story narrated by the messenger, it was decided that there could be no better place than this for the war between brothers, teachers, disciples and relatives. The land here was so hard that no one’s mind could be softened even if they wanted to. However, Shri Krishna was doubtful whether the Pandavas might come under pressure from the Kauravas and make a treaty. Therefore, it became inevitable for the Mahabharata war to take place. For this reason, Shri Krishna had very thoughtfully chosen Kurukshetra for the Mahabharata war.

Even today the soil is red

It is said that the soil here is still red in color due to the blood of the soldiers who died in this war. After the bloody war on the land of Kurukshetra, the gods asked Lord Krishna that who would like to settle on this land, then to make it curse free, Shri Krishna told the method of performing Yagya and said that whoever comes here and offers his/her life with true heart, he/she who offers offerings to his/her ancestors will attain salvation. There was a fight between justice and injustice on this land. Therefore, this land will always be remembered for the end of injustice.
