After Agneepath Scheme… what will be the matter between India and Nepal regarding Gorkha recruitment?

New Delhi: About two and a half years ago, when the method of recruitment in the Indian Army changed and the recruitment of Agniveers started through the Agneepath Scheme, Gorkhas of Nepali origin have not been able to be recruited in the Indian Army. There is no special discussion regarding this in Nepal. Just a few days ago, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi had visited Nepal and now tomorrow i.e. from December 11 to 14, Nepal Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel’s tour to India is starting. Meanwhile, Britain has increased the recruitment of Nepali Gorkhas in its army.

What is the matter of Gorkha soldiers?

Nepal does not want to send its youth under the Agneepath scheme. When recruitment started under Agneepath Scheme, the Indian Army fixed the date for organizing the recruitment rally in Nepal. But the recruitment rally could not be held due to lack of permission from the Nepal government. Nepal wants that Nepali Gorkhas should be taken into the army permanently as before and not as Agniveer. All the political parties of Nepal are unanimous on this issue and there is neither any political rhetoric nor any protest or demand being raised on this issue. Talks on this issue at the government level of both the countries have not progressed yet. This issue will move forward only through talks at the government level of both the countries.Britain is increasing the number of Gorkha soldiers
The recruitment of Gorkha soldiers in the Indian Army has been stopped for about two and a half years and even before this there was no recruitment in the army for two years. But Britain is increasing the number of Gorkha soldiers. NBT spoke to the British High Commission on the plan to increase the number of Gorkha soldiers in Britain. A spokesperson of the British High Commission said that ‘We regularly review the structure of the army, this also includes the Gorkha Brigade. Under this, we are working on a plan to increase 100 additional personnel in the brigade in a period of four years. There are 7 regiments of Gorkha in the Indian Army. At the time of independence, there were 10 Gorkha regiments, they were divided between India and Britain. 6 came to India, 3 went to Britain and one was disbanded. After independence, the Indian Army created another Gorkha regiment.
