Actress Mimi Chakraborty gets rape threats, obscene messages being sent after post on Kolkata case

The actress has told that she had protested against the Kolkata case demanding justice. But since then she has been receiving rape threats. Mimi has also tagged the cyber cell in a tweet in this regard. Mimi Chakraborty also participated in a protest against the rape and murder of the doctor in Kolkata. Along with her, film stars like Riddhi Sen, Arindam Sil and Madhumita Sarkar also participated in a protest organized on the night of August 14. Mimi Chakraborty is also a former MP. She reached Parliament by winning the Jadavpur seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Getting threats on social media, sending obscene messages

Mimi Chakraborty said on Tuesday, August 20, that ever since she shared a post on social media about the Kolkata rape and murder case, she has been receiving rape threats. Obscene messages are also being sent.

The actress has also shared a screenshot of such messages on social media. Mimi wrote with it, ‘…and we are demanding justice for women, right? These are just some of them. Where rape threats have been normalized by masked people in the crowd. Who say that they stand with women. After all, what upbringing and education allows this?’

The Mamata government of the state is under attack over the rape and murder incident at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has targeted Mamata Banerjee’s government and said, ‘This incident cannot be condemned enough. The damage that the family has suffered and the shock that the entire society has suffered, especially the attitude of the state government on this incident, is very worrying. The Supreme Court has taken cognizance of the matter. The hearing is going on there, but I would say that the way the state government has behaved is very worrying.’
