AAP’s answer has come, will Congress be able to make the contest triangular in Delhi?

New Delhi: The steps of politics are amazing, you will not understand politics, you are still innocent… These lines of Dushyant Kumar are fitting the people of Delhi. She is also alerting the people of Delhi. The true color of politics is hidden in these lines. Politicians can do anything for their own benefit. No one can predict when an ally will become a rival and when a rival will become an ally. But the public definitely has to bear the brunt of this. Actually, assembly elections are going to be held in Delhi in the month of February next year. Earlier, a clear indication has been received from the two important parties of India alliance, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) that this time both the parties will face each other in the electoral battle. As soon as the news of split in the alliance came to light, the market of speculation has become heated in the political circles.

The path is not easy for Congress

Most of the discussion is going on about Congress. The Congress which was fighting with BJP for the sake of Arvind Kejriwal till some time ago. How will Congress now open a front against Aam Aadmi Party and Kejriwal? However, in current politics, reversal of opinions has become a common thing. But the people of Delhi are sensible. In such a situation, the path will not be easy for Congress. Political experts say that Congress is not in a position to create a triangular contest in Delhi.

Political experts say that the relationship between Congress and AAP in Delhi politics has been selfish. The Aam Aadmi Party which had ousted Congress from power in Delhi by accusing it of corruption, when the Aam Aadmi Party itself was surrounded by allegations of corruption, it joined hands with the Congress. Seeing its political advantage, Congress also thought it wise to join hands with AAP, because it was beyond the control of both the parties to take on BJP alone. However, the people of Delhi understood this nexus very well and rejected the alliance of both the parties in the Lok Sabha elections.

What did Kejriwal say on alliance with Congress?

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday ruled out the possibility of an alliance between his/her party and the Congress for the Delhi Assembly elections in February. Kejriwal said, ‘There will be no alliance in Delhi.’ AAP and Congress are part of the ‘India’ alliance. Both the parties had jointly contested the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi earlier this year, but the alliance did not win any seat and all 7 seats were won by BJP.

Congress report card ‘zero’

Elections will be held for 70 seats of Delhi Assembly in 2025. In the 2020 assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party had won 62 seats. Whereas BJP had won only 8 seats. Congress was eliminated from Delhi for the second consecutive time. This time also Congress does not have a strong position in Delhi. In such a contest, Congress is not visible far and wide.

Huge decline in vote share of Congress

  • Congress formed the government by winning the Delhi Assembly elections in 2008. In 2008, Congress got 40.31 percent votes.
  • Congress had to face defeat in the 2013 assembly elections. While the party’s vote percentage was 40 percent in 2008, it came down to 25 percent in 2013.
  • Congress suffered a major setback in the 2015 assembly elections, getting less than 10 percent of the votes and not a single seat. In just 7 years, Congress’s vote percentage came down from 40 to 9.7 percent.
  • The 2020 assembly elections also proved to be bad. The vote percentage of Congress has gone down even since 2015. Congress got 4.26 percent votes. This was the party’s worst performance in the last 12 years.

Congress will also contest elections alone

Congress had already indicated that it is going to fight the Delhi elections alone. Delhi Congress President Devendra Yadav and senior Congress leader Sandeep Dixit have raised their voice against AAP and Arvind Kejriwal for the last few days. Recently in an interview, Sandeep Dixit had said that Arvind Kejriwal has not followed the coalition dharma in Delhi. This is a clear indication that Congress is in a mood to fight the assembly elections alone. Many local leaders of Congress have joined Aam Aadmi Party. There is increased tension and anger in Congress regarding this matter also.

What is the biggest challenge before Congress?

The biggest challenge for Congress will be to explain its agenda to the people of Delhi. In fact, during the Lok Sabha elections, Congress leaders were giving statements in defense of Arvind Kejriwal. The same leader is now attacking Arvind Kejriwal. The people of Delhi are also confused seeing the attitude of Congress. Earlier, Congress was also silent regarding the Delhi liquor scam issue, but as Delhi elections are approaching, Congress is cornering AAP with this scam. The role of Congress in Delhi currently seems beyond the understanding of the public. Congress is nowhere to be seen in front of BJP and AAP in this election.
